Things To Know
Even
though we have begun sending a new “Calendar
of Events” with the dues mailings, we’d like to remind all members to please, share the Jargon with your Spouse, so that our events may be
better scheduled on your personal, or family, calendars for better attendance. And
on that note, please mark your calendars with the following change: the
Installation of the Board of Directors Meeting will be at the Bog on
Tail Twister’s Corner – Lion Peter advises that all members are to wear their name tags to all meetings and Lion functions; members without a name tag will be fined. And, beginning soon, our Tail Twister will be looking for Lions New Years Resolutions.
The
participation in this year’s Peace
Poster Contest was the best it had been in a number of years. The theme was
“Peace Without Borders”, and we received and reviewed some fantastic artwork.
As a matter of fact, the field was so good this year that the judges chose five
runners up, instead of the usual three. Peace Poster Chair
The Board of Directors would like to express their appreciation and thanks to Lion John Kobland for his great work these past few months as the Chair of the Advertising Committee. Thanks also to Lion Rick Burke for his excellent work on the Placemat, which will, from now on, be used at all meetings at all Lion (and, hopefully, non-Lion) functions at which food may be served. Advertising is critical for us, as it can be a lucrative fundraiser; we hope that all Members continue to work with Lion John by providing him with new advertisers throughout the year.
The Cranbury Lions’ 58th Annual Pancake Breakfast was held on Sunday
December 4. “Attaboys!” to Co-Chair Gerry Hanson, his committee and crew for
making this, one of our key fundraisers, such a great success, raising
approximately $3000 (at “press time” the final numbers had not yet been
tallied). A laurel and hardy handshake to Lion Richard Stannard for stepping in,
at the ‘last moment’, as Santa this year (unfortunately, Lion Roy was unable to
do his Santa gig, but hopefully will be back again). A note of thanks, of
course, to Lion
The
Board of Directors has approved two new
fundraisers:
Valentines Day Roses – the Club may
have the opportunity to pre-sell bunches of roses, by the dozen; our
costs will be substantially lower than the retail cost of roses at
Valentines Day, consequently, we will be able to sell them at a substantially
lower price, the difference between our cost and our sale price being all
profit. It is estimated we could make over $1000 with this fundraiser. Lion
Additional fund raisers have been discussed , and while excellent in concept, we have been unable to organize them at this point. Some of these, and the reasons we haven’t attempted the events, are an antique car rally (no one to organize it), a Halloween party (no venue), a casino night (no venue, Bingo, an art auction, a cruise, and a marathon;
The
Club will hold an Art Auction on
March 4th at Fellowship Hall in the Presbyterian Church. Local
Artist Kathie Morolda will organize, promote and prepare the auction on our
behalf. Club Members must pre-sell tickets to the event, provide ten volunteers
to assist during the auction, help sell advertising in a program booklet, and
assist in obtaining donated items (art or non-art related) items to be raffled
off at the event.
As a
result of the talk by Tom Nye, our speaker At the October Spouse Night, the
Board is entertaining the idea of having a meeting, probably in May, at the
Grape Escape in
As
most of you know, or may remember, Lion
Just
a quick mention…the 8th Annual
Golf Outing will be held at the Peddie Golf Course on
And, speaking of our 75th Anniversary…Hold the
date for the Cranbury Lions 75th
Anniversary Celebration –
What’s Happening In Other Clubs
The North Brunswick Lions Club will hold a lunch time fundraiser on December 8th & 9th at Maples Deli, 570 Georges Rd; 10% of the proceeds will go to the North Brunswick Lions Club.
The South Brunswick Lions
Club They will hold a Tricky Tray Auction in April 2006 at
Reminders
Frank Marlowe has been our Program Chair for a few years
now, and has done quite an excellent job lining up speakers for our meetings
each month. You can all imagine how difficult it can be, finding 20 speakers
per year that will be of relative interest to all our Members! We all come in contact with someone
interesting on a regular basis. When you
do, or if you have any
suggestions for speakers, please give Frank a call, or e-mail him at marlowe@cranburynj.com . Additionally, Frank
will take all members’ suggestions for interactive discussion nights.
Even though we have a few anticipated new fundraisers, the Cranbury Lions Club is still in search of additional new fund raisers – different, entertaining, and fun. Any member who has a fundraising idea should share the idea with President Alex. The list of potential fundraisers, and the input from interested Lions, will be discussed at a Board of Directors meeting, and presented to the general membership at a regular meeting.
While it is important that we increase our fundraising
capability, it is equally important that we do it without continually
requesting donations from our small community on a too frequent basis. With
over 300 commercial locations in our immediate area, the website is one of the
easiest and best fundraisers we have. We ask every member to please try to
bring in at least one advertiser per year. Refer all advertising leads to Lions
