Greatest Experience of Your Life
October 5 – Board of Directors Meeting –
October 6 – Regular Meeting –
Speaker: TBA
October 20 – Regular Meeting –
Interactive Member Discussion: TBA
For some reason, last year’s meeting attendance was
unusually low. As Lions, we have agreed to help the community through
fundraising and volunteerism. In the past, our members have volunteered,
directly, at meetings. With attendance down, so is our volunteer corps. We
realize that the dynamics of our Club have changed and members have more
demanding roles with careers and family, but the Board has asked that all
members make every effort to attend as many meetings as possible throughout the
year. The Board would welcome any and all constructive comments on how we can
boost attendance at the regular business meetings.
Effective with our first September meeting, normal “dress codes” are back in effect. Business attire, including proper “business casual”, at all meetings, please.
Our Interactive Member Discussion Topic scheduled for September
15th will be “The Greatest Experience of Your Life”. With the full
understanding that the birth of your first – or any – child is right up there,
if that’s your greatest experience, please tell us about the “next greatest”
experience. Please keep in mind that these Interactive Discussions have been planned
to help us get to know more about our fellow Lions and to further help our
total interaction as a Club through the friendship and camaraderie that can
come from these discussions. Members are encouraged to suggest topics for these
discussions; please give your suggestions to President Walt, Lion Frank
Marlowe, or Lion
A laurel and hardy handshake to Lion Joe Carroll, and his “crew” for providing a great time at the Cranbury Swim Club for our Fifth Annual Cranbury Lions Club Picnic. We had about 40 people, including family members, and a wonderful time was had by all.
Our Annual Trenton Thunder Game Outing was on Saturday, August 14, 2004 We sold 44 tickets this year, but due to inclement weather and the treat of a Hurricane Charley, only fourteen people made the came, The Trenton Thunder, however, made an exception to their “use ‘em or lose ‘em” policy, and allowed all ticket holders for that game to use (or re-use) their tickets for any other game during the season. Just for the record, the Thunder won the game on August 14th.
Cranbury Day is Saturday, September 11, and ALL Lions are asked to pitch in at the food court, on the Ice Cream Cart, or walking around selling 50/50 tickets. There will be a sign up sheet at the September 1st Meeting. Please contact Lions Don Herr or Dennis Kennedy to let them know what time you will be available to work.
The
Board of Directors has designated the second meeting in September (9/15) as
“Bring –A-Guest” Night. All Cranbury Lions are encouraged to bring a guest –
and a potential member – to the meeting. There will be a reservation/sign-up
sheet at the September 1st meeting. While reservations are not
required, if you plan to bring someone, we ask that you please advise Lion
Our Annual Golden Agers Luncheon will be held on September 18. As always, Lions Mahlon Thompson and Joe Addonizio will need a few Lion volunteers to assist with the hosting duties, and of course, desserts are needed. A sign-up sheet will be passed around at both September meetings. Anyone wishing to help, but unable to make the meeting, can contact Lion Mahlon.
The first
meeting in November (11/3) is our Autumn “Spouse Night”; please advise Lion
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – The Club needs a Chairman and Co-Chairman for the Spring Raffle; we also need to know who will be interested in holding a can for the White Cane Days. All interested members, should please contact President Walt, ASAP.
This
issue of the Jargon contains the Treasurer’s Report for the year ending
Reminders
Frank Marlowe has been our Program Chair for a few years
now, and has done quite an excellent job lining up speakers for our meetings
each month. You can all imagine how difficult it can be, finding 12 speakers
per year that will be of relative interest to all our Members! We all come in contact with someone
interesting on a regular basis. When you
do, or if you have any
suggestions for speakers, please give Frank a call, or e-mail him at marlowe@cranburynj.com . Additionally, Frank
will take all members’ suggestions for interactive discussion nights.
It is important that we increase our fundraising capability
without requesting money from our small community over and over again. With
over 300 commercial locations in our immediate area, the website is one of the
easiest and best fundraisers we have. We ask every member to please try to
bring in at least one advertiser per year. Refer all advertising leads to Lions
Joe Addonizio,
Any member who learns of the sickness or death of another
member, or in a member’s family, or any other similar incident or emergency,
should contact Lion Dave Cook to activate the “phone tree”, so that all members
may be notified.
Ed Lawson (5 S. Main) / Max Mesner (Rossmoor)
Lion Dennis Kennedy
will be the “permanent” pick up driver for Lion Ed
Lion Frank Marlowe will be the “permanent” pick up Driver for Lion Max
Lion Joe
Drivers: if you cannot make your pick-up, and/or if you
switch (or need to switch) with someone else, please notify Rick Cusworth as
soon as possible. Riders: please notify the assigned driver if you’re not going
to make a meeting.
