Stan Thomas Community Service Award
Lion Stan Thomas, a life long resident of Cranbury, shared his time and energy, without compensation, and in a most altruistic fashion, with the volunteer organizations in Cranbury, in particular, Boy Scout Troop 52, his church, and the Cranbury Lions Club, where he was a Past President, Board Member, Regional Chairperson, Lion of the Year, and a Melvin Jones Fellow. The "Stan Thomas Community Service Award", is sponsored by the Cranbury Lions Club, and is awarded each year to one Cranbury Youth who exhibits the spirit of Community Service that Lion Stan Thomas exhibited throughout his lifetime, based on the following criteria:
Eligibility
- Candidates must reside in Cranbury.
- Candidates shall be between 12 and 18 years of age.
- Candidates may be male or female.
- Candidates must have shown examples of exceptional Community Service, which shall include, but shall not be limited to, volunteerism, leadership, or other virtues of service.
Nominations
- Candidates can be nominated by anyone without restriction.
- Notification of the award and solicitation of nominations will be made to Cranbury and Princeton School staff, BSA and GSA leaders, and local clergy.
- A written nomination detailing why the candidate is eligible for the award should be
made by April 15, and sent to:

The Award
- The final candidate shall be chosen and agreed upon by the Scholarship and Award Selection Committee. This final candidate shall be presented to the Cranbury Lions Board of Directors no later than the May Board of Directors Meeting (the Tuesday before the first Wednesday in May), for final approval.
- The recipient shall receive an award of $250
- His or her name shall be inscribed on a plaque to be displayed in a location designated by the Cranbury Lions.
- The Honoree, and his or her Parents, will be invited to attend the Regular meeting held the First Wednesday in June, where the Club President will present the Stan Thomas Award for Community Service.
The first Stan Award was presented in 2002.

** Emma Brunskill was the most qualified for this award and was chosen before her tragic death; the cash award was used by the Cranbury Lions Club to purchase a plaque on the Eagle Scout Project benches in front of the firehouse in memory of Emma.
