Tree City USA - 2003

Cranbury has been named a Tree City USA by The National Arbor Day Foundation. This is the 15th year Cranbury has received this national recognition.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. To become a Tree City USA, a community must meet four standards: a tree board or department, a city tree ordinance, a comprehensive community forest program, and an Arbor Day observance. "A community's tree-planting program is a living memorial to the citizens' concern for the quality of life. The trees we plant and care for today will cool our cities, fight pollution, conserve energy, and give wildlife a home for years to come," John Rosenow, The National Arbor Day Foundation's executive director, said. "An effective community forestry program is an ongoing process of renewal and improvement - a program of tree planting and care that continues through the years," Rosenow said. "The Tree City USA award is an excellent indication that there is a solid foundation for that process of improvement."

Leaf Collection 2004
tbd

Residents may place leaves between the sidewalk and curb for Township pick up. Please remove branches, vines, grass clippings and other debris from the leaf piles as these materials will clog up the leaf collector machine, damage the hose and cause delays in collection. Residents not living on the streets noted below who need leaf collection service call 395-0900 x229 to arrange pick up. Barring inclement weather or breakdown, this circuit takes two weeks to complete.

Curbside Chipping Service

Cranbury Township's Chipping Service for tree branches, shrubbery and other yard clippings commences the third Wednesday of each month. This is the starting date and not necessarily the day that the chipper will collect your brush.

To make the chipping process more efficient, a few regulations are requested:

  1. All material to be chipped should be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the collection day.
  2. BRUSH IS NEVER TO BE PLACED CURBSIDE PRIOR TO THE WEEKEND PRECEDING THE THIRD WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH.
  3. Branches should be placed parallel to the road between the curb and the sidewalk.
  4. DO NOT PUT BRANCHES IN THE STREET OR BLOCKING THE SIDEWALK.

·Branches should be placed with the cut ends together.

6. Branches should not exceed 12" diameter. All brush must be at least 3' in length. Although 3' is the minimum length, longer branches are much easier to chip.

7. Hedge clippings, twigs and small branches less then 3' (but not less then 1') must be bundled with string only (NO WIRE) and must be free of foreign debris, such as, stones, dirt, metal, sweepings and rakings.

8. No lumber, construction material, roots, or stumps are permitted.

Appliance and White Goods Pick-up

The Department of Public Works will pick up white goods, curbside, the second Wednesday of every month. Residents who want to participate in this program must pay a $10.00 permit fee for each appliance. Residents must schedule for a pick up one week prior to the pick-up day.

White goods are defined as any heavy metal appliances, such as: stoves, washers, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers and hot water heaters.

Call the Township Offices at 395-0900, Ext. 229 for more details.

Spring Municipal Clean-up

The Spring CLEAN-UP PROGRAM will be held on the following dates between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at which time an attendant will be on duty at the municipal garage to receive all acceptable discards:

tbd

The purpose of this service is to dispose of appliances, furniture and/or other large articles which would not be picked up by your private contractor. Due to the recent acquisition of a wood chipper, tree limbs and brush will be accepted. Please make sure that brush and limbs do not exceed 12" in diameter. All brush must be a least 3 feet in length.

The appropriation set aside for this purpose is limited and because the expense for disposal of the refuse is high, no individual household can expect to dispose of truckloads of accumulated rubbish.

RESIDENTS SHOULD BE PREPARED TO PROVE RESIDENCY IF REQUIRED BY ATTENDANT ON DUTY by display of driver's license, tax bill or acceptable document showing proper address. This will help to prevent abuse of this very valuable service which is provided by Cranbury Township.

The following items will NOT be accepted: dead animals; rolls of wire; tires; logs; pallets; building materials; or any items considered hazardous.

COMMERCIAL BUSINESSES ARE EXCLUDED FROM THIS PROGRAM.

Arbor Day Celebration 2004

This event took place on April 26 at 10:30 a.m., at Cranbury School.

The Township of Cranbury has been recognized as a Tree City USA by The National Arbor Day Foundation and desires to continue its tree-planting ways.

PLEASE NOTE: Township Municipal Offices will be closed to allow staff to attend the celebration.

Recycle Christmas Trees

Will take place every Wednesday in January. Leave your tree curbside with all decorations removed.

Ice Skating on Brainerd Lake

Skating is permitted only when the GREEN FLAG is displayed at the Main Street entrance.

Due to the recent purchase of a new temporary ice skating/hockey rink and hopefully freezing temperatures, skating will be a daily winter event. The temporary rink will be placed in Village Park. Skating is on a first come first serve basis.

Parents, please keep in mind that no one will supervise the safety of those who use the rink. It is strongly suggested that little ones be supervised by parents.
