The Cranbury Historical and Preservation Society was organized in 1967 and incorporated on November 17, 1970. It is governed by an Executive Board, composed of officers, trustees and committee chairpersons.
The Society is committed to the furthering of interest and knowledge in the history of Cranbury; the promotion, support and encouragement of the beautification of the land and buildings located in Cranbury; and the restoration and preservation of Cranbury's old and historic buildings and sites. The Society operates a Museum and History Center, and sponsors biennial house and garden tours; tours of its Museum and History Center and walking tours of the village; periodic exhibits in the Museum; a series of programs in local history at the Cranbury School; and cultural programs and events for the entire community.
As a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the League of Historical Societies of New Jersey, and the Historical Association of Central Jersey, the Society participates in national, statewide, and local preservation conferences and activities.

There are many levels of membership ranging in price from $10 (Friend) to $150 (Corporate) per year.
The Society is self-supporting and donations are tax deductible.
