Library Internet Service

CRANBURY PUBLIC LIBRARY PROVIDES INTERNET SERVICE

The Cranbury Public Library now provides public access to the Internet, the global network of information links accessible with a computer.

Tutorials on using the Internet and Microsoft Word are available at the library. Stop by for more information.

The Information Highway will allow you to visit the world's great libraries, take a college course, play a game, consult weather forecasts, and check sports scores. Entertainment, education and information are all at your fingertips. In addition, the library subscribes to several information services that index and provide access to magazines and newspapers from across the country. These new services, coupled with our new library automation system, OPAC (Online public Access Catalog) and CD-ROM reference tools provide Township residents with a "Blue Ribbon" library.

To make sure that the public can get full use out of the internet, the library is providing materials to help people understand how to use the internet. There are two videos that the library has to educate the viewer on how to use Windows 95 and the internet. These videos can be checked out free of charge.

The Internet offers access to many valuable local, national, and international sources of information. However, information found on the Internet may be inaccurate, incomplete, dated, or offensive to some individuals. A good information consumer must evaluate the validity and appropriateness of information found.

Parents or legal guardians must assume responsibility for deciding what library resources are appropriate for their children. Parents or legal guardians should guide their children in use of the Internet and inform them about materials they should not view or use.

Due to the limited resources available for the provision of public access to the Internet, the Library may set limits, for example on use of large files or still or moving images or sound, or on down-loading files in any medium. The Library also reserves the right to limit the amount of time an individual user can devote to a single session. Users of the Internet may not distribute unsolicited, advertising, invade the privacy of others, use the Internet for illegal action, or violate copyright. Violation may result in loss of access and unlawful activities will be dealt with in an appr6priate manner, Computer screens may be visible to other patrons. The Cranbury Public Library reserves the right to take appropriate action to insure compliance with this policy. In addition, the Library reserves the right to evaluate and revise their Internet policy from time to time.

To fulfill its mission of providing access to information of all types in a wide variety of formats, the Cranbury Public Library now provides access to the Internet. The Internet is an opportunity to expand one's horizons. Visit the Library and "Surf the Net!"
